THIS WEBPAGE IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

I had made this site years ago and need to go thru the entire site. Links will work but Donate and comments will not work.

The Tornado Prepardness Desk

The Purpose of This Website

This website's purpose is to inform individuals confused or overwhelemed by all the information on government/non-government websites. Although being prepared will not guarnatee success it is your duty to try, so that you and your family will have the tools needed for the diaster. Prepare so you know that you did everything possible! I built this website by typing most of the html code, but if you would prefer to use government and non-government sites to prepare the links that will get you started are on the bottom-left of all pages within this website. Download this FEMA PDF- How to Prepare for a Tornado to get you started. If you believe in what I am trying to do keep reading.

For Teachers/Educators 1-12 Grade

There are a several resources available on the FEMA Website. The Youth Emergency Preparedness Curriculum is broken down into 1st - 2nd Grade (29 Pages) , 3rd - 5th (28 Pages) , 6th - 8th (35 Pages) 9th - 12th (29 Pages) . The lessons do require some preparation but they include information that every kid should know. The lessons include other natural disasters, fires, earthquakes, winter storms, etc.

Ready to Prepare?

A fighting sprit is also required during a diaster. If you don't want to have this ideology and the will to survive on your own, just hope that the government beats the 72 hour respone time-line! Ask yourself these questions- How do people survive five days under a building clapse? How do people live more than five days without water? How do individuals saw off an arm or leg to free themselves? The one and only answer is they want to live!

Think about a Disaster!

While browsing through this website imagine yourself in the diaster situation. Think about what people went through during a tornado and imagine yourself losing your home, property, clothing, food, and one family member. If you plan for the worst and hope for the best you will be prepared for most situations.

This site is trully not meant to terrify you, but to make you think about a natural disaster on a personal level. Follow the order of this website so that you will be well prepared for a tornado. I will walk you threw all that I can and educate you so that when the time comes for an educated decision you will have the knowledge to thrive.

False Sense of Security

If this general fact makes you think then this site has succeeded in its purpose to a degree. The unmistakable fact is that people in general do not prepare for disasters due to feeling that they are safe. The second group of people that do not prepare just plainly feel they can spend the money else where or do not have the money to spare. The final group feel that the Local, State, and/or Federal government will provide all the assistance needed.

These are all dangerous assumptions due to the fact that a tornado can destroy many or all local resources that are set aside for response and recovery operations. Also, it can generally take FEMA and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army up to 72 hours to respond, depending on the severity of the damage.

I will provide links to government/non-government sites printable PDF files that will go into more depth than my site. Links will also allow you to apply for grants that will help with the cost of building a shelter and other valuable information to help with the cost.

Why up to 72 Hours?

Several logistical routes must be determined, availabe personel must be found/notified and transported to the diaster site, volunteers need to be documented so they can be placed correctly for maximal benefit due to everyone have their own experience/training, safety issues for rescue workers, damage assesment reports (How many supplies, equipment, personel, camps, etc. are needed) medical needs and equipment, and many other problems/issues have to be addressed or the rescue personel may become another person or group needing rescued. Intelligence has to be gathered and then sent to various departments and then make a plan because every disaster is somewhat different.

All this and much more has to take place and it also is part of repeat training that done over and over again so that it is done right because if not more lives are potentially lost.

Education is the Base

We are all given a logical and intelligent thought process. Use this and educated yourself by reading thru this site and the links I have provided. I am creating this website to help others not because I want to get credit but because alot of people do not know where to begin. What you choose to do is your decision!

Volunteering in Your Community

When disaster strikes we truly show our humanity by helping others. It takes an even greater and better person to volunteer before disaster strikes. If you would like to know more about volunteering visit All Hands, Volunteer Match, Energize Inc., and Operation Blessing. These American Red Cross and Salvation Army links will also provide valuable information on ways to help within your community and surrounding areas.

Learn from this Website and Links

Most of us studying for a degree in Emergency Management are use to people saying that we are over-plaining, over-spending, and wasting valuable time and resources trying to complete the four phases of emergency management (mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery), until the natural or man-made disaster happens. If this sounds like your dream job, FEMA has free online Independant Study Programs Setup an account and start learning about Emergency Management. After each test you can print off a certificate!

When will a disaster happen?

It might be tomorrow, a month from now, ten years, but it will happen! You need to be prepared! Please follow the critical steps and actions that are preached over, and over, and over trying to keep you, your family, and your community safe!
